John has been recovering and waiting to get in to the Physical therapist.. He has a strain on his knee that needs some phisio and he has put it off.
You know what happens when run hard, when you push your self beyond your limits, when you give yourself a nasty little injury that you think is no big deal so you ignore it until it is suddenly a big deal. Of course you know better, of course John knows better!
And so, John runs still but less. So much less!
Runners World When to Run and when to Stop, is a great article about Injuries and how to decide if you need more than self care.
“Most runners have grown out of the ‘if it isn’t hurting, it isn’t working’ mantra. But what’s the difference between a routine twinge and a potentially disastrous injury?”
Canadian Running has an excellent article on what to expect when it happens and what recovery can be like!
“If you run for long enough, there is almost a universal guarantee that at some point you’ll get a running injury. Runners are particularly prone to injury given the repetitive stress that running places on the body. Sometimes we miss a few days while other times it could be months. Regardless of the type, severity or duration of an injury, being forced to take a break from running can be a difficult thing to deal with.”
I will keep you up to date of John’s recovery and runs, If you run the Payson Mountains and trails, he’ll see you out there!
